Elizabeth (Betty) Coburn Obituary

*Betty wrote this Notice herself.

I passed away at Simcoe Hospice on July 24 at the age of 93.

I am survived by sisters Mae Aiken, Maxine Roulston-Thompson, brother Bob Roulston, and sister-in-law June Roulston. Also survived by my stepfamily Ron and Kim Riley, Mitchell Riley and Lindsey Cunningham, Murray and Sharon Riley, Kevin and Amanda Riley. Along with many nieces and nephews. I was predeceased by husbands Dee Coburn, and Bob Riley, sisters Tina McKee, Ethel Robson, brother Don Roulston, sister-in-law Trish Roulston and brother-in-law Jim Aiken.

I was raised on the 8th and 3rd Lines of Innisfil, attending S.S. #6 Killyleagh and S.S. #2 Bethesda public schools and Lefroy Continuation School. Shortly after graduating I began a 40 year career with Bell Canada.

I was actively involved in United Church Life, Cookstown Agricultural Society, a lifetime member of South Simcoe Theatre, and spent many years volunteering at Simcoe Manor in Beeton.

In retirement, I became an agricultural fair judge, worked part time in shops in Cookstown and had many hobbies and crafts, including knitting and crocheting. In 2014, I moved from Cookstown to the Waterford Retirement Community in Barrie where I continued doing crafts for many years. I enjoyed travelling and visiting relatives in Ireland, as well as trips to the Maritimes, Newfoundland and the US.

I would like to say a very special thanks to many good friends and neighbours!

I will see you on the other side!

A celebration of Betty's life will take place on Saturday August 13th. Visitation at 10AM and Memorial Service at 11AM at the Paul F. Kent Funeral Home in Cookstown, with a luncheon to follow at the Community Room at the Cookstown Library.
