SWEET, MONA of Barrie passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024 in her 55th year.
Cherished mother of Zophie Sudol and sister of Douglas Sweet. Mona was predeceased by her parents Frank Sweet and Margaret-Joan Ellen Sweet of Lion’s Head.
After completing her diploma as a Medical Secretary, Mona worked in a dental office. When Mona had her adorable daughter she was then a stay-at-home mom and also enjoyed hobbies such as gardening, home renovating, painting and needlepoint.
Mona liked to spend time at the local Royal Canadian Legion Branch #147 on Ferris Lane, Barrie, ON L4M 4A6 especially for their traditional get together for moose milk and luncheon the day after New Year’s. It is here Mona had a discussion with now Barrie Mayor Doug Downey about having activities for people in their later prime of life. She was well known for speaking her mind on many topics.
She constantly struggled her whole life with Diabetes when she had accidentally fallen down her home stairs it was then discovered she needed and had a heart operation. During the follow-up x-rays the hospital then discovered breast cancer. After successfully surviving the operations’ she then had a stroke on Friday, January the 13th, 2023. After which was a slow recovery process in & out of the hospital for about 1 year & 3 months stay at IOOF Seniors Home Inc. then later Coleman Care Centre in Barrie where she was well taken care of. She was confined to a bed or wheelchair. Her health declined and her last few days were in RVH ICU. Her close friend Sabine Meeser and her daughter Zophie Sudol were by her side.
Cremation will take place at Paul F. Kent Funeral Home Ltd. 16 King St N, Cookstown, ON L0L 1L0.
A celebration of life will be scheduled some time in the Summer.
