Stanley Nelles Obituary

Passed away in the comfort of home, surrounded by precious family, Stanley Trueman Nelles – beloved Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Papa, Uncle, and Faithful Servant/Friend to all – slipped from this world and passed peacefully to be in the company of our Lord on the 29th of March, 2022.

Born on the 16th of August, 1946, to Phyllis Ivalo (nee Donnell) and John Trueman Nelles (both pre-deceased),  Stanley was the youngest of three, with older sister “Sis” Donna Woodland (spouse Orland) and late brother Neil Nelles (spouse Marion), whose families all have remained closely connected through the years. Uncle Stan adored all of his Nieces and Nephews, which after marriage expanded to include the “Weaver” family (Art, Isabel, Ron), enjoying every opportunity to visit family members individually and collectively; family reunions were a favourite time.

Discovering the love of his life Marilyn Gail (Weaver) at a 4-H event, the soul mates were married in 1970. The still growing family moved to Cookstown in 1976 where they made a house into a home along with eldest son Jonathan James “Jay” (spouse Stacie), and daughters Laurie Anne Abthorpe (spouse Geoff) and Leslie June McCormick (spouse Michael). Over the years, Stan considered himself to be truly blessed by a chorus of Grandchildren who knew him affectionately as Papa: Julia and Katherine Nelles, Jacob and Gillian Abthorpe, and Isabelle and Elaina McCormick. His legacy to family is an enduring example of Faith, Love and Dignity through all adversity.

Stan was active across many communities, enjoying a wide network of friends, colleagues, and acquaintances including those of: Bradford Baptist Church, Weaver Flooring and Compass Flooring, men’s fastball and hockey teams, as well as coaching youth hockey and volunteering as the local outdoor ice rink “custodian” at the Cookstown Fairgrounds. Among Stan’s most cherished pastimes were golfing with his golf buddies, home improvements and gardening, and toiling away in his workshop, creating a great number of timeless treasures and heirlooms.

The Nelles Family welcomes you to join them in a Celebration of Life to take place at 1pm on Monday, the 4th of April, 2022, at Northridge Community Church, 15338 Leslie St. Aurora, ON with a reception to follow at the Meadows of Aurora (Woodland Towers), 440 William Graham Drive, Aurora. Donations in Stan’s name to Bradford Baptist Church our long time family church or, in honour of the service to our country given by members of Stan’s family, Wounded Warriors Canada, are greatly appreciated.

Matthew 25:23….Well done, good and faithful servant.

Please consider providing a Six Word Phrase that best describes your memory and thoughts of Stanley so that the Grandchildren can arrange a special tribute for their Papa.
